Update January 30 - February 5
TOO COLD, snow is brittle, hard outer crust, and no sticky powder underneath.
I tried today, Friday and it’s impossible to build but it is possible to carve into the crust. So if you want to carve bears go ahead, but it’s not so much fun, brutally cold, and our recommendation is waiting until the temperatures change.
If you want to do it anyway, please be safe. If you go to the Great Lawn choose a position for your snowbear that the skyline of NY will be the background. And please don’t forget to take photos of your snowbears (no matter where they are!) and send them to polarbearfestnyc@gmail.com
Our meeting point is always: north-west entrance of the Great Lawn in Central Park, on the height of 85th St.
Hopefully next week we can fill the entire Great Lawn with hundreds of snowbears!
STAY WARM
Together We Fight The Climate Crisis
We invite everybody to come out on days when there’s enough snow on the ground to build snowbears on the Great Lawn of Central Park, New York City.
Building snowbears is a creative demonstration - our version of a march - demanding an end to the corporate, military, and state emission of greenhouse gases.
While it doesn’t require dramatic actions, it opens our minds and hearts to the sphere of hope and of possibility, and garners public attention in a unique way.
